Bike -  2003 Ducati Monster 1000ie. ODO -62000kms

I was told recently after my last valve service that there is not much adjustment left in them and that I should be looking to rebuild the top end at least sometime in the near future.

Is there a rebuild kit for the 1000DS engines of do you have to source parts separately?

Cheers in advance for any info.

I know of no 'kit'.

Look into Kibblewhite valves and guides. http://valvetrain.kpmivalvetrain.com/category/etrain-components-ducati-1000-1100-br-2003-to-2009

Hopefully the seats can be refaced and the pistons/rings are good.

Seals and gaskets can come from Ducati, or there are some A/M suppliers of gaskets.

while i have no experience with your bike, there's two things about that statement that amaze me.

1/ someone actually made it.
2/ you believe it.

The mechanic I use has done most of the work on my bike since I have owned it over the last 4 years including installing the belts you supply and valve checks. Oil changes and other basic stuff I can do myself. The mechanic has always been pretty up front. I was informed that the valves will likely start receding into the head. There is also guide wear. We had a bit of trouble tuning the PC3 when it was installed with a hanging idle which was put down to the wear in the guides fluffing up the air/fuel mixture. When he was informing me of the adjustability issues he suggested that while the engine was apart it would be a good option to rebuild the top end. I wanted to get an idea on my options and cost before I committed. Some of the NCR rebuild options make it not worthwhile due to cost.

I'm definitely no expert on Desmodromic valves hence why I am here. Would replacing the valves and guides then reseating suffice or is there more involved? Would a compression test let me know if the rest of the engine is in good order?

if questioning nonsensical statements makes me worthy of being labelled grumpy that's up to you.

you can get a gasket set, which ime can be more expensive than its components.

how much have the valves receded?  i assume it's had regular tightening openers?

It's not the questioning Brad.

It's the tone and choice of words.

The guy came here for advice and you basically called him, and his mechanic, stupid without any real info on the bike.

I was being nice using Grumpy. I have other choices.

Carry on.
