2000 900 ie with fuel injection.  Crashed the bike in July.  Replaced fuel tank.  Bike fired up and seemed to be running just fine then died while warming up for its first ride.

Have since:

Replaced fuel pump.  The pump will run when the wires coming out of the tank are hooked up to a battery so it bench tests.  When hooked up to the wiring harness--nothing.  To replace the tank I had  (I thought) to pull the wires leading from the tank out to the connector.  I forgot to take a picture.   [bang]

Wiring coming out of the tank and into the plug is now wired as follows--with the connector pin up, reading left to right: Small blue wire; white; thick black and red.  The connector leading into the wiring harness is as follows, connector up, left to right: White/thin brown; blue/thin black; black; brown/thin white.  The Haynes manual shows the wiring from the plug leading into the wiring harness as brown/white; blue/white; black and black.  So not even close.

I have checked all fuses in the fuse block.

When cranked, the spark plugs fire.  So the ignition seems fine.

Thanks for any insight.  Closest shop is in Brea and I am not that fond of them.  I prefer the guys at Moto Forza in Escondido but they are a good 1 1/2 hour tow away.   [bang]

Fuel pump relay?  Pull relay.  Check for power at terminal 30 with the key on  Jump from terminal 30 to terminal 87 and see if the pump works.  If it does, test the relay.  Test light or meter from 87 on the relay to ground.  Terminal 86 to ground.  Terminal 30 to 12 volts.  When you put 12 volts to terminal 85 the test light should light.

Did you renew the in-tank tubing when you replaced the tank, the material can perish with time.

Also check that the tubing isn't kinking and getting blocked when you lower the tank.

Apart from those simple things there a lot of other stuff can go wrong :-(

Howie, thanks, I will do those tests over the long weekend.

All hoses were replaced.  Hey, if you are replacing the tank and fuel pump you may as well replace the hoses!
