Pretty sure the V3 heads were the 3 valve heads from the ST3.

Nah.. 2 valver, air cooled
Saw one today.
If it was one of the 3 valve air cooled heads I would have re-located them!   ;D

From another forum:

I need to replace the front head on my 2000 M900 Fie, it's stamped V3. Will a 1995 900SS front head stamped V2 work? or does it have different valve sizes? I'm just using the head casting, I'll be changing the valves and using the original cam, rockers, etc.
Thanks a lot for any advice you can give me.

Meyersperformance (Bruce) reply:
The numbers V2 and V3 are irrelevant. The 95 head has a hole for the tach drive which you would have to plug, and it has fins on the top. The 00 head has a better intake port and the top of the head is cast thinner and fins. Other than those items, they are interchangeable.

IMO, if this is your only option, then it won't matter that much because you can't see the vertical head all the way to notice the difference. I think that if you found a 97 or 98 it would look the same as yours and only difference would be the hole for the tach drive.

Thanks Lars. Cheers.

Interesting about the 900ie having a better intake port.
