Just noticed recently a bit of oil leaking onto my right side case and onto my rearset. Took it to the dealer yesterday and he changed the filter, he said there has been some issues with these filter sitting properly. Made sure everything was tight. Anyways got home and its still happening. Just wondering if any of you guys might have an idea of whats going on.

I wonder if they checked to see if a gasket was still in there from a previous change...........

Places I've had oil leaks which all, more or less, can result in oil on rearsets/clutch cover:

- oil galley from cases to and through cylinders (between cylinder and cases)
- cam pulley seal
- oil filter
- oil pressure sensor
- oil fill plug
- cam belt wheel seal (the double in the middle)
- crank case breather valve

Clean and dry, run engine without riding, inspect - if possible spray with aerosol footpowder after 'dry' to see where the leak actually is.

Crank case was at fault and had some holes and bubbles caused by some air trapped in the casting. At least its a warranty job but still Sucks.

That's interesting, since the Evo with it's vacuum cast cases is supposed to be less prone to such flaws  ???

I know thats what they said, never seen it and shouldn't happen with the vacuum casting. Oh well bike is getting a tear down. Hopefully they dont find anything else.

good time to throw in some performance parts (lightweight flywheel, high comp pistons, etc) without paying for labor. ask about  ;)

SpikeC

Odd that it took 7500 miles for it to show up.
