So there I am getting ready for a ride this morning and as I am doing my pre-flight I notice my rear brake reservoir seems to be leaning a bit.  Going for a closer look I think I see a crack in the super thin super cheesy mounting bracket.  So I reach out to touch it and the reservoir falls off.

Seems that little thin metal bracket cracked right in half.   :o   I am sure it is all of about 5 bucks form the dealer but I am thinking it is perhaps a POS.  Maybe I will make something slick in aluminum.....

Yes, exactly like that!  Make it yourself?  Same problem?

Yes, made it myself. No, did not have a problem other than I don't like cheesy looking bits on a bike when it is so easy to replace them. In the same area, the brake hose coat hanger bugged me so I did a billet one.

Al Material is from a metal scrap yard. I buy it by the pound. About a third of the price from a metal goods supplier. Machines are HF bench top lathe and mill.....supplemented by several grand of cutters and accessories.

Nice touch!  [thumbsup]

I have a fantastic scrap dealer down the road from me so I am going to swing by today and grab a little piece of billet.  Can't wait to fiddle around a bit with it.  Should be fun to see what I can create using my highly specialized milling equipment.

This is my Dremel.  ;)

Actually, you can fab quite a bit with hand tools so long as you have the patience and pay attention to detail.

My bike is officially no longer a catalog queen.   ;D

Started off with simple bar stock, a dremel, drill and bench grinder.  It could be slightly better but it looks even better in person than in the pics.  Not sure if I will anodize/paint it black or not.

Decided to try another version.  One slimmer than the one I made.  New pics tomorrow.  ;)

Just curious. The stock reservoir on my 796 bolts directly to the subframe tab you are using. Was it an aftermarket bracket for an aftermarket reservoir which failed on yours?  ???

The 2013 has a separate bracket for the reservoir clamp.  I think your bike the reservoir clamp bolts directly to the frame.

The reservoir clamp did  not want to fit my stock mounting position.  They changed a couple of things for 2013.  Silly as it is now a one year model and I can not even get a cool gas cap for it.
