As I recall the first time that I removed the tank on a 1100 Monster I read through the instructions and was very intimidated, but after doing it it was a doddle. With an electric screw driver it just takes a few minutes.

It's not that hard.  Remove some bolts as previously described and... viola!!

Is it more bother than it ought be?  Probably.

But really, is it THAT hard to do?

Really?

My sentiments exactly.
But, if it is that priority of a concern, the rest of the bike must be adjudged to be engineering flog free.  [roll]

Come to think of it, to be politically incorrect, maybe the floggings should be reserved for the tiny brains attempting more than they should. :)

Thanks to all the constructive comments, and to StephenC for the helpful photos.

The job is not hard, but is definitely more involved than my 1973 and 1995 BMWs were!  Geez!

To those why are far more are mechanically inclined and could not understand my ducati neophyte perspective, I apologize. It's just that I don't like "guesswork" on an expensive Ducati, which is why I felt frustrated that there was a lack of step-by-step instructions provided (the manual does not qualify, IMHO), or directions on forums with clear photos for something that must be practically routine at this point.  After all, it is not like I was asking for info on how to adjust the desmodromic valves, for Pete's sake!

That's all.

Setting up two network attached storage appliances utilizing RAID5 in a cluster is rather simple for those who know how to do it or those who have clear instructions in front of them. The same holds true for cleaning my .308 main battle rifle versus my 5.56mm assault rifle with a very different takedown procedure.  Do it enough, no problem.  Doing it for the first time or been a while?  It helps to have instructions!  Endeth the sermon.
