M900: To Split the Case or Leave it to the Professionals?

I've removed the heads, pistons and cylinders and I've notice scoring on the teeth of just one of the gears (the one closest to the alternator side).  I have a NOS gearbox but I'm afraid to split the case! How hard is it? Or should I concede and take it my local Ducati guy?

Removing the primary gears requires a special puller and shimming the cases, if any bearings get replaced, is tricky and time consuming.

If that's all you can see wrong, I'd run it.

If the crank plug is backing out then take it in.

do it once on each bike you own and you'll be a professional.

I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the pros to crack it for me and replace the bearing while they are at it!

Does anyone has a list of part numbers for M900 engine case bearings???

Question about your list...

Are you missing a bearing on the RHS input shaft...or is there a typo?

hmmm... not really sure   :-\
But I'd guess the LHS is a typo and should be RHS.

I made that list 4 yrs ago and its getting a bit vague now.

thats why I added the disclaimer!  :)

I'm pretty sure the line should read:

2 751302566 Bearing, LHS on I/p shaft, RHS on O/p shaft

----------------------------------

That list is not necessarily correct for all large-case motors, they've changed LHS output bearing at some point.

It's an excellent start, however.
Just make sure and check on a parts catalogue and with a dealer.
The Main bearings are not cheap.

That's the truth.  [bang] I literally lol'd at the dealer when I was given prices for the crank bearings, figured I could do better. I figured wrong- they are even more expensive if ordered directly through Athena and no bearing house I called had the correct ones. Commoto ended up having the best prices. I'm still working on finding out the correct size shaft bearings for the belt rollers...I'm certain they're out there, but that's another one I had to bend over and get  make the beast with two backsed by the dealer on.

Some of the numbers have been superseded according to the Pro Italia website. I'll list an update list and prices as soon as I've finished my research (I got side tracked yesterday and today as the heads are back for my '93)

Ducati Omaha's website automatically updates the part # to what's current when you punch it in. Pro Italia and Commoto, others sometimes make you chase multiple sku's till you get it right. A minor pain but it adds up in time quick if you're trying to get a list of sku's together.
