old (hoop) Monster: rear ride height different from steel to alloy swingarm?

So as I accumulate parts to finish my build I've been a bit disturbed by some anecdotal info I came across here:

M900.blogspot.com

"Well so much for the Bitubo shock...it doesn't seem to work properly with the M900 aluminium swing arm! It does fit, but only with the swing arm at its highest position. In other words it won't allow for any ride height adjustment beyond the hoop's lowest setting"

I have both a Bitubo shock and an alloy swingarm, and am also adding an S&P hoop which is 20mm taller than stock. Is there a difference in ride height between the 2 different swingarms if all other factors are equal?

Bitubo makes two different XZE shocks.  One appears to have a fixed length; the other has an adjustable length.  The other guy's blog doesn't say which model XZE he tried, but if it was the fixed length model, that may have caused his problem.

Hope yours is the adjustable one.

Mine isn't adjustable length...however it not only worked fine with my steel swingarm, it worked fine with the steel swingarm and 25mm spacers. His beef was that; "it worked, but only with the hoop at its lowest setting." That's the first and only time I've ever heard anyone suggest there's a difference in ride height between the 2 swingarms. I guess we'll see.

I've just measured both aluminum and steel arms, same dimensions as far as ride height is concerned.
