Hey everyone!

A buddy of my keeps talking about how awesome his power commander, so I figured I would ask you guys what you thought about putting one on a 696.

Not to sure what they do. Just that it mixes the fuel for the temp that you're riding in. I don't want to be that guy that puts mods on his bike that are pointless, but at the same time people are recommending a power comparing and slipper clutch.

Can any of you experts give me some guidance. By the way I don't race my bike or anything. Just have fun on the roads.

Thanks

A Power Commander, provided one is made for and fits your bike, might smooth things out a bit - easier to ride and maybe another horse power or two. Any gains usually depends on air in and air out too - race filter/open air box/exhaust mods. You'll need a good Dyno tuner and pay him for up to a day's work. If you like how the bike runs now, probably/maybe not worth it.

Your bike has a slipper-like APTC clutch.

Thanks stopintime. I guess i'll wait on the commander until I can learn more about it. As for the slipper clutch I thought it would be over kill. I have the Ducabike clear engine cover so I wanted to dress up the clutch, but I guess a pressure plate and spring caps will do. Maybe I can coat the clutch hub, since that is that only thing that looks bad.

Thanks again!

I think the best mod for the 696 is the 14t front sprocket.

Finding a Dyno tuner is difficult with new stricter rules and higher fees. Had my 1100 tuned and it made a big improvement. I had a 696 and feel there isn't much more to get out of the engine for the cost of the equipment.

Thanks danaid: I got the 14t and plan on putting it on soon. I was going to get 15t front and 43t rear, but I figure I would give the 14t a shot. My 15k service in soon so I plan on replacing the chain, sprockets, air filter, etc.

I got my bike dyno'ed at the dealership when I had the coated exhaust and termis installed. I think I might do it again after I finish with the mods this season. Plan on filming it for the vlog.

I know I'm putting to much into the 696, but I never get rid of my bikes. Since I will have this forever I figure its not a waste of money. Then again I try to find any excuse to justify buying mods:)

the m696 is closed loop, so unless you reflash the ecu to make it open loop you some sort of o2 sensor manipulator (which work to varying degrees) to allow the power commander to work in the area you want it to.  a reflash on its own to suit your mods may be just fine.  i did a m696 a few weeks ago which the owner said transformed it.  others don't find so much difference.

Makes you wonder how much of it is a placebo effect.

it's more about what people are used to, and how they ride.  i ride bikes the owners say are great that are absolute chunks of shit.

Mine feels like that now, but my clutch is shot. Waiting another 500 miles so I can get the 15k service done at the same time.
