I'd like to know if anyone knows for sure if a rear shock from a different model suit to the s4r without any modifications because i am into purchase a second handed ohlins shock but there are not a lot available from the s4r/s4rs series so i am wondering if a shock from a 749/999 or 916/996 whould fit... Many thanks... If not i am probably going to upgrade the spring and the internals of my shock.

Without knowing specifically which Öhlins shocks go where,  I think I remember the shocks for the Hypers have a longer stroke than the Monster shocks. I also think the reservoirs will not fit on the Monster frame.

Edit: I just remembered there is a thread about more or less the same question:

Monster 900-2002 (sold, alive and well in the UK), 749R / 1100 HYM combo for track days, wifes / my Monster Dark 800-2003 (not entirely "Dark" anymore and a personal favourite) , 50% of 900SSie -2000 track bike for rainy days-now with tuned ST2 motor and Microtec ECU. Also parked due to having been T-boned on track.
