rear wheel

I have been looking for a 5.5 rear wheel for my wife's bike....she really digs the look of a fatter rear. 

But the question is....whats the deal with this wheel? why is it so different?

there are wheels with 17mm axles and wheels with 25mm axles  . . .

What model is your wife's bike? 600/620/750? the bike will becomer "heavier at steering" will loose the nimbleness and agility . . . Even with the 170 wide rear the bike feels weird . . .

Also, the Ebay wheel made by Dymag does not have cush drive as does your wife's OEM wheel.

I did not say the OE cush drive would not fit.  I was merely pointing out that the ad says NO CUSH DRIVE which may or may not present a problem for you, especially since the seller does not accept returns.

You should ask the Ebay seller if the OE cush drive bits are compatible and usable with the wheel.  It appears to me that the seller may be or be connected with Fast by Ferracci, and if so, should be able to tell you.

however just eye balling it....it does seem that the radius on them is tighter than an OE wheel.

The ad states the cush drive is 'specific' to that wheel.

There's a guy I ran into recently on island with a 620. He has a 4.5" wheel he says he put a 180 tire on. Not buying it. He wants my 5.5 stock wheel. Supposedly all you have to do is change the bearings and spacer from a 620 wheel to the 750 wheel to make the 25mm axle.

He also has the front end off of a CBR on his bike. Sorry. I didn't like it.

St2 st3 st4 wheel is 25mm and 5.5 and will work with stock cush drive and 520 chain set.

converting 17mm axle wheels to 25mm and visa versa is a bit of a mess.  some are wider across the hub, so you need different spacers (that don't exist), etc.  and bearings which may not be available in the dimensions (width) you need.

I did managed to score a 5.5 inch wide wheel and got it all lined up and everything seems to work out ok. I needed to get a few extra things though, 17mm axle, and brake caliper bracket, which I also had to modify a little, and yes...some washers to space things out a bit cause the 17 mm axle is a little bit longer.

all in all, I am happy with it.
