Hey all,

I've been trying to track down why the horizontal cylinder is not firing on my 02 M620ie. I think I have traced it back to the fact that there is no power at the connector to the fuel injector. Ive done quite a bit of searching on the forum but havnt come across a solution for my specific case. I would be super grateful if anyone has suggestions for more items to check.

Things I have tried and checked:
-Checked Spark on both plugs -> both look fine.
-Swapped fuel injectors -> No change
-Put a volt meter on the terminals of the connector -> No discernible change when the the engine turned over.

Theres a bit more to the story. I had recently finished rebuilding the bike after a small crash. I saw an opportunity to comb through the bike to fix smaller issues and make some modifications. The few changes I did make were: going back to stock exhaust from chopped/cored cans, replaced the ignition coils with Ca Cycleworks' kit, installed a crank case breather, and replaced my starter motor that had been flaky in the past.

Before getting the chance to actually ride the bike I ended up making a from PA to CA. So the bike has been in a shipping container for a while. Finally, I pulled the bike out the other week to take for a quick test ride and noticed the bike was really lacking in power. When I returned I checked the temperature of the exhaust headers, the vertical cylinder was hot while the horizontal was cool.

I got a Haynes manual in the mail but any other pointers would be awesome.

Thanks!

The pink/yellow wire from the ECU is the wire that triggers the injector.  An educated guess is the computer grounds the injector, convention on most FI systems.  Anyway, I would check that wire for continuity  and check that the brown/white wire at each connector has power, key on and cranking.  If the brown/white wire is hot my guess is correct.  While you are waiting for the Haynes manual there is a wiring diagram in the back of your owner's manual.  No manual?  No problem.  Download one here  http://www.ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do

Thank you! I will bust out the multimeter and do some more investigating. Sadly I never knew the wiring diagram was in the owners manual, never made it past the english section.

Little update:

I checked for continuity between all the points the wiring diagram showed to be connected. I found that the brown/white wire from the horizontal fuel injector was disconnected from the reset of the system. I decided to pull the wiring harness out again and follow the connections and sure enough the fuel injector wire we broken from were the rest were spliced together.

So after a little soldering I am happy to have found something definitive.  Next up is putting the wiring harness back in the bike so hopefully it will be all set.

After opening up the wiring harness I found one thing that is bothering me a bit. There are a bunch of wires spliced, some soldered and some just clamped, all just wrapped in tape. Is this something they do in the factory or did the previous owner have some fun in there?
