An '08 M696 you turn the key on & get all the usual noises but nothing lights up on the dash! Pushing the starter makes a few more noises but nothing happens!!

Checked fuses, all good could it be an ECU issue? Or has the dash fried itself somehow?

Any & all suggestions welcome   [thumbsup]

The starter is shorting itself out! Pulled the starter motor apart and it's not pretty (photos to come) not sure why the dash won't light up! Might have to wait until Friday when I hopefully buy another bike so I can try that dash on it (none in at the moment!)

P.S. Thanks Monsta for the good word to Justin  [thumbsup]

So, starter motor-kapput-
starter solenoid?
Fuses?
Customer's bike or parting out bike?
Remember that ECU-Dash have a direct connection so, when you get another 696, disconnect battery and then ECU and install dash/ECU on other bike . . . these are 3rd world test methods, so, be extra careful ....if you have a go or engine starts then you can rule out dash /ECU and then test solenoid

For many years cars electronics have been very sensitive to arcing and voltage backing up through ground while welding etc. Are moto electronics becoming advanced enough to require the same care?

I wonder if the peeps that are experiencing issues are at least disconnecting batteries before messing with connections that are ecu controlled?
