Monster 796 - Clip Ons with Stock Triple?

Hi all,

This is my first post although I have come across your forum a few times over the years. I've just put down a deposit on a 2012 Monster 796 and as my first Ducati I'm naturally looking at a couple of small mods. One of which is getting clip ons.

I'd prefer not to spend the money on a Speedymoto triple clamp at the moment, and don't mind the look of the stock one. However, after reading a few threads including one on here where a user decided to stay stock, I don't want any issues with the bars hitting the tank or have to move the headlights/reservoirs etc.

The user on here (sorry lost the thread for the moment) used Woodcraft clip ons with 2" risers and had these problems. So I wondered if I could use 2.5" or 3" risers to fix the problems he had, and if this would still be lower than the stock handebars?

If I do need to make adjustments to the reservoirs or light, what adjustments/equipment would be needed?

Since I live in Norway I'm picking the bike up in the UK so would like to order all the necesary parts before hand so I can make the mods there before riding back.

Thanks,
Antony

The grips will be ~7-8 cm lower than the grips on the stock bar.

You could get the Woodcraft spacers to help with the grips-hitting-the-tank issue....

Live in Norway, but from South Africa?

FWIW SpeedyMoto also does clip-ons in a few different height configurations
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Yeah, my family moved to the UK in 1996. Before I had a chance to move back I made the mistake of travelling to Iceland where I met my Norwegian fiancee. So.. I get a few months of riding here in Norway rather than year round in South Africa!

I'll check out SpeedyMotor, thanks. I wanted to ask how the 1100s differs when it comes to mounting clip ons with the stock triple?

Thanks,
Antony

Speedymoto - no R at the end

And having only done a tiny bit of work on an 1100, and none of it with regards to clip-ons - I cannot help with details there.

...........

I hear that a lot. Seems the only reason why people move here  ;)

Check out our club at desmodromene.com (or facebook if you're that kind of person :P )

Clip ons on an 1100 is the same - minus the brake/clutch spacers.

You're not wrong - aside from the brief window in the year when everything comes back to life during the Norwegian Summer. If only it was longer.

Thanks for confirming the clip ons. I'm almost tempted by the Woodcraft adapter although it is somewhat ugly.

I'll check out your club. Where do you guys ride? I'm in Telemark at the moment although will likely move to Akershus later in the year.

We ride 'everywhere' - also Telemark - spectacular B roads  [Dolph]

Most of us, as Norwegians in general, live in and around Oslo, but need to get an hour or so out of town to find good roads.

We do short rides in the sunny long evenings, long day rides Sat/Sun and weekend rides further away. Handful of track days too - at Rudskogen 100km South/East from Oslo. Tech seminars and social gatherings. Almost every weekend from late April to late September is red in some form.

Fair play man. I'll definitely be in touch once I pick up my bike then. I used to have an SV650 a few years back when I lived in Fetsund. The Route 22/120 was a great little trip.

When I had my M1100S I installed a set of Suburban Machinery "clubman" bars, and they were brilliant, unfortunately I believe that the discontinued that model. A used set would be great if they could be found.

Thanks for the tip. I did have a look for some Suburban Machinery bars but as you say, they seem to have discontinued bars for the Monsters.

Question: With the Speedy Moto top triple clamp, does that make it unecessary to move or adjust the headlight for clearance?
