Couple of electrical questions M695

I sure don't like the way the vertical cylinder coil is mounted close to the exhaust header - is the heat an issue for these coils?  Easy enough to relocate, especially if the crankcase breather box is eliminated...

And what about the rectifier location up under the seat?  Are they problematic due to the lack of airflow there?

Haven't seen any coil issues on M695.

Not the greatest place for the regulator, a little more airflow helps 'em out.
I prefer the forward mount like the Gen1 Monster, but the 695 frame doesn't have the mounts.

Someplace with some airflow where you don't have to look at it... that's the trick.

You can flip it with a kit like this  https://tpoparts.com/cat093/index.php?route=product/product&path=1_15&product_id=165  or make your own, but this requires e3liminating the breather box.

Looks like a common failure - as it was on my SV.  I'll do the Mosfet FH020AA mod while I'm in there, and relocate that coil as well. Even so, those Shindengen rectifiers run so much cooler that the stock location would probably be good enough...

Though heat is a problem, a big cause of regulator failure is the connector where the three wires from the stator connect to the regulator.  Make sure this connector is clean and tight and pack with dielectric grease.

This particular connector is the bane of all brand bikes using it in their charging systems. Most will exhibit overheating discoloration within the first year of operation. I routinely replace them with Metri-Pack conns.

Others just solder the leads together and eliminate a conn at that juncture. Soldered connections on a bike are a point of debate with some for them, and others against them. I have no opinion either way.  ;)

The downside to properly soldered connections is future diagnostics are more difficult.
