i know there is a lot of data about swollen tanks, but mine is not swollen, but it leaks from the fuel pump under the tank. there has been some talk of an X ring to solve this problem but my dealer in Australia only has the O ring listed in his parts book.
i'd appreciate any suggestions on fixing my leak with with X ring or something else.
cheers, Max

This is the worse plastic tank failure type. I do see it on a small percentage of tanks so you are not alone. I would have your dealer try and get Ducati to replace the tank as gas pouring out the bottom is not good. If they will not I would bite the bullet myself and try another used tank (yes it will warp but maybe not at the pump next time. Or buy a carbon, aluminum aftermarket tank. I have not tried converting a steel tank to the s4rs yet  but it would be one of the first things I tried. Plastic tanks are no good in my neck of the woods.

thanks for your response. i was hoping to learn of a fix to the tank. I'll try replacing the o ring before giving up on this tank. How did Ducati get this so wrong. plastics have been used for a long time to carry fuel.

Somehow they dropped the ball.

Usually, this is covered via warranty, as it's a fuel system problem.

AFAIK, there is an updated x-ring to replace the O-ring.

my local dealer doesn't have the X ring in his parts book (Perth, Oz).
i guess i could ask him to ask Ducati Oz for info.
