Strange Day...

So yesterday afterwork me and co-worker headed up to ACH. We do this ride every other week, up the front, down 9mile out towards Sunland. We are jamming down 9 mile and I notice that he is no longer behind me, I slow down and nothing. Not wanting to think the worst I turn around to go see what's up. I see him by the side of the road, his bike is parked (new 1098) and he tells me that the bike is dead. He felt the bike loose power and then it just died. We tried turning the bike on and nothing...the cluster comes on but the bike won't start.
So I proceed to remove my seat cowl, hide it in the bushes, and he rides on the back of my bike back home to pick up my truck. Get home, jump on the truck and head back up ACH. We get there and get everything ready to load up the bike. Now, I have done this countless times, my last bike was a track only bike so I have plenty of experiance loading a bike on my truck.
Somehow, someway, as we are pushing the bike up the ramp I mistep and twist my f-n ankle to the point that I think it's broken. I fall to the ground and the bike falls on the bed of the truck with my buddy holding the bike from the rear so it doesn't fall from the bed of the truck on the floor. We are both in shock, I'm in shock because I think my ankle is broken, and he's in shock because his new 1098 is on it's side.
After a few mins I regain my composure and we manage to put the bike up on the truck and head home. His bike got some nice gashes on the side and scratched up the bottom fairings, about $1000 worth of damange....
I offer to pay for the stuff but he won't have it....we drop the bike off at PI this morning and they will fix the fairings for $400 and make it look "better than stock"...we'll see.
I'm still waiting to hear back from the Dr. if I indeed broke my foot or not.
What a day.....

Hope you didn't forget your seat cowl in the commotion. Hope you recover quickly.
Oh, side note, I hope it is a break and not a severe sprain. Breaks take longer to "heal" but sprains are never the same once they heal.
Then you've got those exercises you're supposed to do to maintain mobility.

i thought you were unemployed?
ugh.. that sucks. sorry.
couple months ago, after running my track bike up my ramp dozens of times, i was doing so at willow and caught the left footpeg on my jeans. huge rip (subsequent huge bruise on my right leg), and the bike mostly made it up the ramp before kinda half landing on me, somewhere between the ground, the bed, and the ramp. motherf*ck.

well, i had a sandal blowout halfway up the ramp and if you guys hadn't been there to catch the bike, i woulda been in the same situation.

this all reminds me of a time I was loading a bike in my truck
by myself
. I was using a steel MX ramp (thin & slippery), that was NOT bungeed to the truck, and a tool box as a step. Since I was alone, I thought it'd be easier to get the bike up the ramp with it running. From there the circus began. Almost as if one motion, the rear tire started to spin on the ramp, the box started to tip and the tire started to spit out the ramp (slowly). Meanwhile, I'm using every last ounce of energy to keep from falling over and getting crushed.
Thankfully, a stranger was driving up my alley and noticed the commotion, stopped, ran over and started pushing - in the end, he saved me.
The gran finale was when the bike was finally in, the tire shot the ramp out.
No harm, no foul. But a good lesson.

.. ramp that was NOT bungeed to the truck
i know we all know this, but never - ever - do that.
derby - remember watching, what was it, those FOUR guys trying to get that gixxer in their truck at big track? it was like watching a testosterone knucklehead game show. ramp spat out twice, they're running around trying to take andro shots and hold up the bike at the same time.. it's resting on the bodywork, no one seems to notice. i think they finally just picked it up. sheesh.
then there's this method:
topic wandering... anyway, sorry arai_speed. hope your ankle is ok.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's has a mishap while loading a bike on a ramp. I still haven't gotten the results of my x-ray but all signs point to a sprained ankle w/some tore ligaments

My Story: I'm unloading my new bike. Bike goin down ramp, I'm holding bike and taking big step down from truck and rrrrrip
. Big hole in the crotch of my shorts. Bike and people safe, just big laughs for twenty mins or so.
arai_speed,
Maybe you can suggest to your friend that if he had a monster there wouldn't be any expensive body work to replace.

I told him something similar...."If you hadn't bought an overpriced POS bike we wouldn't be in this predicament"

Ouch, that's probably the worst you coulda gotten.
I messed up my ankle pretty bad when it got pinned under my bike after an accident. Still don't have full flexibility after 4 years. Don't slack on those recover stretches even if they hurt like a pregnant dog!
