2002 Monster speed sensor

Hi guys,
any ideas on how to troubleshoot the problems with the speed sensor on my '02 750i.e. Monster?
So, my speedometer stopped reading any speed information, all of a sudden, it's also not registering mileage. The needle works, when I start the bike, and it does the self test just fine.
I'm thinking either the speed sensor broke, or the cable is cut somewhere.
Is there any way I can test this with a voltmeter?
