Motodynamic Sequential LED Tail Light

Installed a new rear brake switch and my 6 year old Motodynamic tail light has crapped out the license plate light and running light functions. Reinstalled the old switch and same situation, so I guess it's not that. I noticed that the license plate (white LEDS) weren't lighting all the way across (1/3 not) a couple of weeks ago. It's been a great light so far. Anyone run across this before?

 Have you read their web site FAQ? I remember some info on this. might need a relay?

I've got a conversation going with one of the guys there, running through the possibilities. It's weird because I can turn the bike on and the tail light/license light are fine. Crank it up and those go out, but the brake light/signals work great.
