Keys for 2009 Monster 1100

I have a question, I have one key for my bike...buddy of mine has two keys and a code card and is going to be junking his bike due to an accident. Could I use his keys given he'll provide me with the code card and use them on my bike?

They are coming off a M1100 2010 and going into a 2009 Monster 1100...could the key card and keys work as a direct swap set up?

Any word guys if the key card and keys from a 2010 M1100 will just swap over to a 2009 M1100?

Iirc, the bike, keys and card go to the dealer to see if it can be swiped across to the new dash. You can also go to an automotive key specialist who can clone your key. My Hyper 1100 Evo came with one key and no card and I had two spares cloned. Worth checking out the comparative costs of each method up your way.  Worth a search here as some shop contacts came up in a previous thread. Edit: just checked, a few threads there with a few leads.

 - your lucky - but not 100% sure if this is right for a 2010 1100;

they have a similar but different transponder key system to a 06-08 s2r 1k that I'm doing the same with, one would have to direct swap all; gauge cluster; ECU; keys; code card and reconnect all on other bike to work.

cant hurt anything by trying swapping theses components on another exact same bike.... from what I've read.

Also a competent locksmith with a key transponder clone can make a duplicate key for you shouldn't be over 30 bucks; a good price would be 15.

Yes. The concern is the card only lets you replicate keys, so a full transfer could mean swapping the whole kaboodle. Check with the dealer what is involved. I like the key cloning as its simple.

I've heard the cloning equipment is expensive and registered for security purposes so that explains the price. Mine were $80 each down here a few years ago.

SOS quoted $25 with some ECU work and with my own transponder blank (so maybe that why its cheaper?) ... I had one cut & chip cloned (years ago now I guess) for $15 with my own blank again.
