Stripped out tank mounting bolt?

2012 M1100evo here, but I believe many of that generation Monsters use a similar tank mounting configuration.  There is the one main, center bolt that goes in to the back of the tank from the underside/wheel-side.  Like straight through the undertail, pointing up, through a subframe crossbar and rubber grommet, and into the back sort of tab shaped part of the tank.  Mine appears to be spinning an insert in the tank.  It won't unscrew.  But nor will it just pry loose, like if the insert were to pull out still attached to the bolt.  I managed to get the tank off by removing the tool tray, subframe cross bar, and then twisting the rubber grommet out.  So right now, there is just the bolt and washer fully exposed.  But whatever is free spinning is up in the plastic of the back tank-tab!

Anyone dealt with this?  Solutions?  I'm about to grind off the head of the bolt and just leave it in there as sort of a locator pin, but without any actual compression of bolt on housing.  That tank's not going anywhere with all the other stuff going on around it in multiple directions.  But if there is a proper way to fix it, I'd rather do it right than redneck.  All of this for a battery issue that is a whole other complaint session!

That has happened and was discussed earlier. Sorry, can't remember the solution. Have you done a search?

Before you start a battery complaint thread - make one for the battery access  ;)  [bang]

Good answers.  Y'all don't disappoint.  So the back part of the tank there is solid and can just be drilled through to push out the insert?  Interesting.

I dont have FHE, but remember the issue being dealt with in this great community. [thumbsup] Others with FHE will know more.
