Hi
Very new to this forum. I have a M1000s ei 2005. Has been a fantastic bike and done about 45,000 ks. It decided to just stop a couple of weeks ago on a ride (very embarrassing). one of the two relays started to buzz when the ignition was turned on and no lights at all on the dash, no starter no nothing.
Tried the obvious and replaced the relays still the same problem. I live in a remote part of Australia and it is very hard to get information. I have power to the main 40amp fuse but turn on the ignition and it drops to about 5 volts.
Two things if I may. First I cannot find  a workshop manual on line that covers this specific bike and I'm sure there is one BUT.
Next could this be a faulty ignition switch??
Any assistance will be very much appreciated.
Cheers Lee Hunt

Sounds like your battery has failed.

But..... best to do some electrical checks before buying or borrowing.
Do you have a multimeter?

Can you describe your remoteness a bit more?

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Now I feel quite silly. Checked the battery and its dead  [beer]
It had been starting very well so the battery must have up and just died. on checking the age of the battery it has been in there for about 5 years so not a bad innings really.
So thank you Sensai [bow_down].
Its good to know of this forum and I have found some really neat stuff on here while browsing around.
I have 2 monsters a 1000 and a 750. Just bought myself a 950 Multistrada and love that as well.
I'm heading over to World Ducati Week in July so super excited about that.
I live in Katherine, Northern Territory.
Cheers and thanks for your help again

Batteries usually are a 'fade away' failure, but occasionally do give up all at once.
5 years is a pretty typical lifespan.

Best to confirm that your charging system is performing properly.
The bike will only run for 30 minutes or so on battery alone, battery voltage eventually drops so low that the ECU can't think straight.

Welcome. [beer]
+1 on checking the charging system just to make sure the battery is being fed properly and there's no issue upstream. Best put the voltmeter to the battery and see how the system behaves at idle and say 2-3000 rpm. There are quite a few threads here about checking the charging system, so worth a search for the ins and outs.
Good stable of Ducatis there [thumbsup]

Thanks for the heads up on the charging system. Will get a new battery and then check the charge system. This could well be the root problem just not charging enough maybe.
I would still like any help I can get as to getting a workshop manual for this model that I could download as this would also give me all the charging specs etc.
So If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Hi to all that have responded and thanks for the welcome.
Love me Dukes

Since you just want to confirm it is operating at this point, a voltmeter across the battery is sufficient.  You want to see 13.5-14.5 volts at about 3K RPM.  If not, let us know and we will take you further up the diagnostic tree.

Thanks Howie. Once I get a battery that will start it I will check that and come back if things don,t just work.
Any Idea on a manual ?
Cheers  [thumbsup] [thumbsdown]

You could get the factory manual, 914.7.023.1B for about $130.  Old info, call a dealer first, it might have gone digital.  A negative on that is most electrical diagnosis is based on the Mathesis scan tool.  Another option is  https://haynes.com/en-us/motorcycle-manuals/ducati  more for the DIY people.  You can suplement the Desmodue/Desmotre Maintenance & Modification Guide available from http://desmotimes.com/index.html
