It was inevitable, but still hard to grasp.

Pausch's story is an amazing one.  I have yet to read/hear about a more inspiring story.

the guy was definitely very smart, a very good teacher that actually could teach and had fun doing it, and obviously was a very good speaker that injected humor into lectures.

I do think its sort of ironic that what his lecture was about the things he says is nothing earth shattering or new, its just that people never stop and think unless someone comes along that speaks well and makes it "fun" and is termially ill that we listen, and that is sad.

Its funny he mentions all these things to lead a better life, like be nice, set goals, keep trying, keep working, stay positive, have fun, be courteous, listen, learn from mistakes and move on, be responsible, etc.. all the things you have heard for years, but bc he made the lecture "fun" it was more interesting.

sounds like he was probably an extremely hard professor to have in college, but probably one that actually was a good professor that actually was a good teacher at the same time and made it fun whne you had to work hard.  rare fine indeed.

my college physics professor was like that... he gave really good "last lectures" too...

He had an effect on society, and still enjoyed life.

I think he did well,

You definitley can't wait for life to happen, it'll go by without a second glance.

We use his lecture to help kids who earn a Saturday School at the middle school where I teach. It creates a good beginning for a great discussion. I never get tired of it.
Is it June yet?

Ek, I DID Derby it  ;D

I checked his blog only 2 weeks ago. They'd just finished another course of treatments... were trying some alternative therapies to help build his strength up.

I feel as bad now as I did when Carl Sagan died. :(
