Bought a Bitubo Steering Damper with the Mounting Bracket that attaches to one of the forks above the top triple for the 848 but didnt realize there was only 2mm of fork sticking up to mount the bracket on.  :-[ Looks like I need at least 10mm. Is it just a matter of lowering the front 8mm? How difficult is that to do? What about the impact on the suspension, rake and handling of doing that?

I know this is a question for an 848 and this is a Monster forum but the knowledge and responsiveness on this forum exceed all others so I thought I'd ask the question here. Plus I believe the same type of Steering Damper Mounting is also used on Monsters.

Have you or previous owners done things to the suspension and/or geometry? 8 mm can be a welcome change for some Monsters/-owners. But not to all. Maybe less good for an 848/you. It depends on so many things...

It alters all 3 parameters quite a bit.
A link to what you bought would be needed for advice.

Here's a link to the damper there is a pic that shows how it gets mounted with the bracket in the kit.

Regarding the suspension setup on the 848 it has been altered by a previous owner who put on Ohlins Front and Back which may account for the current fork setup. That being said the front end is a bit sluggish in turns and does not inspire confidence in handling compared to the other Ducati's I've owned and ridden. Probably need to get the suspension examined and adjusted by a shop. I'm about 170lbs so wasnt sure how much of a difference it would make to get the suspension tweaked for my body weight. BTW: This is intended to be a track bike.

Thanks in advance for any input provided!

Don't even mount the steering damper yet.
