Where do you guys get your fabrication supplies or rather, where do you get your metal and other raw materials to do some home brew fabrication?  Im always scrounging around my work to see what I can use and I dont think the local hardware store has all the things that I need.

I just used these guys for the first time, they have facilities in Minneapolis MN and Ft Worth TX:

Now I am in the Minneapolis metro and was able to pick up, but they will ship.  Don't know if they were most cost effective, but the entire process (except finding the door to the office) was completely painless.  Entered order on-line one afternoon, picked up in the yard the next.  Sheets were cut exactly to the dimensions I specified.

They took the time to shrink wrap the tube and angle stock, then put the duct tape over that.  This prevents the tape glue from getting on the clean metal and causing more clean up work prior to welding.

I'll go back.

For most aluminum or steel raw stock, I use a local supplier, Storm Steel, whose price is about 50% less than the hardware store.

For plastics and fasteners, I use mcmastercarr.com - the service and selection is amazing.  Also, if you are into CAD, they have most of their hardware online as 2d and 3d models.
