Something to do with the Wife!

I wanted to get your guy's opinion on hiking to Multnomuh Falls this weekensd with the wife. I've never been there and was think it would be a good outing this weekend. I'm not sure wher else to go execpt maybe to St. Helens where we went last weekend. Anybody else have a good Suggestion?

Does she mind steep?  If not Saddle Mountain.  If so try the Sauvie Island hike.

Multnomah Falls is fun... hiked that with my wife a few weeks back... nice grub there to eat too!! Plenty of picnic places along the way... if you decide to go that route... it does get a tad crowded on the weekend.. although most people do not hike to the top... it is about a mile.

How crowded? Are you never alone, I don't care to be bothered on hiking trips  with having to knock elbows with a ton of other people.

The bottom of the falls is knock elbows crowded... the trail is better....  but the other trails to other falls around there are much better for good alone time.

Jump on 26 West . . . ~1/2 way to the coast on the Right.  Great views if you get a non cloudy day.  I've hiked it now 3 times and enjoyed it every time!

The gorge is an excellent place to take a wife especially if you have a shallow grave in mind 

The falls are wonderful idea. That Saddle Mountain one I have not been on but I hear it is a serious hike where you need to pack in some water and wear good hiking shoes.

I once new a guy who took his "daughter" up there to Saddle Mtn. He got big blisters on both heels. Great view though

Hiking to the top of Beacon Rock in the Gorge (Washington side) is always a good one. I know, I know, there are no waterfalls, but the view of the Gorge from the top is great.

  I still haven't let him live that down.

Saddle mt is a great hike, and totally worth the effort. It's kindof up and down in skill, some places are pretty easy and some are hard, mainly getting toward the top is really steep. Once you get there though, it's a 360 degree view of endless forest and you can see the ocean, it's breathtaking. I highly recommend it for people with medium hiking ability.

I highly recommend you stop into Barnes & Noble or similar and pick up the hiking guide book by the author William Sullivan:

    100 Hikes in NW Oregon (or something like that).

There are lots of other hiking guides by other authors, but Sullivan was the original and is the best, I think.  It breaks down all the hikes, where they are, how to get there, where to park, how to find the trailhead, etc.  They should hand out this book at the DMV when you get your Oregon driver's license.

In fact, he has a whole series:  Hikes on the Oregon Coast, Central Oregon Cascades, SW Oregon, Eastern Oregon, etc.

The 1st one covers the NW corner centered around Portland with maybe a 150 mile radius.

Another favorite hike of mine in the Gorge is Angel's Rest.  It's just a little farther east than Multnomah Falls.

Yeah, pick up the Sullivan book and you'll never get lost.  Have fun!!!

The hike didn't happen like I wanted, the Wife ended up not feeling good from Friday night bar hopping. Thank you all for the info, I think we will try to Hit saddle mt. Next weekend depending on the weather. we don't hike to much but I definitly what to get into it. Doesn't cost to much money and the rewards of hiking are great. Thanks I'll let you know how the hike goes.
