I bought the S4R with the intention of clocking up 100,000km then retiring it to weekend/track duties and getting a new commuter bike.

I know some of the earlier monsters have had massive kms on them but the D Moto guys felt around 50,000km - 60,000km before engine work was required.

What's the most mileage someone has seen on an S4R/S monster or indeed a 996? I don't see any reason why they can't go the distance???

BTW the bike is totally different post the new tune. The low and mid range torque is frigging insane compared to before  [moto]

I've got 33k miles on my S4, still running strong.

Here's an S4R with 36k miles on it, for sale:

I think there was one sold in San Francisco recently with even more on it, but can't find the ad.

IMO, they'd last to 60k miles with conscientious servicing.

Thanks mate.

I do around 30,000km/yr so that's why i'm asking. When i bought it i thought it'd do 6 figures easily but after speaking to the DMoto guys now i'm not so sure. I had 54,000km on my VTR1000 when i crashed it and that thing was running like a gem.

Maybe i should be the first to try and break the stigma that performance models are weekenders only? A bloke i used to ride with had 50,000km on his MV F4  Shocked

pah!
i've seen a few 916's with over 100k on them, and if my S4R needs a rebuild at 60 i'll be pissed! change the oil and filter often, warm it up well ALL the time and service it when due and there's no reason it won't last. most guys plan on keeping a bike till the warranty expires so they flog em to death and sell them on, they're the ones likely to need attention at 60.

I have out 118,000 kms on my 02 620 ...other than a rusted tank (at 5 yrs) and the normal consumeables all is cool. Ride it every day - do as much of the service as I can by myself, use a scotts stainless steel oil filter and change the oil often (have belts and valves done every 2 years -well over the 20K interval) - clean oil and love may be the answer!  chug
