Oh fudge! Newbie lays bike down. Real stupid. Read all about it in
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=119.30
. My write up is reply #38.
After crying (no, not really), I gotta go shopping for some minor new parts. Do most upgrades occur after accidents? I have limited funds and want to get repairs done so that I can attend LDD. I haven't done a full assessment, but know that I need left hand mirror, gear shifter, left foot rest, red, left side tank cover, left hand grip, left hand bar end. Plus, I'll need a headlight guard (it's the silver thing that covers the headlamp that also does double duty to mount the turn signals).
Any suggestions other than my local (pricey?) dealership to buy OEM parts? I figure that it's cheaper to get one half (left side) OEM parts vs. complete set of non-OEM goodies. After I do an inventory, I'll be posting in the "parts wanted" section.
What did I learn today? new cuss words.

Its going to be hard to mix and match OEM and non-OEM stuff.
Good luck on the rebuild. With your new model it'll be much harder to find used parts so your probably stuck with first deciding if you want to go OEM or aftermarket.

ciao r_ciao -
sorry about your crash ... that sucks ... but glad you were not hurt (pocketbook hurt does not count in motorcycles).
hope you get your bike back in road-ready form for LDD2008 ... if not, cage it down anyway ... you might be able to purchase or bid on auction items / parts you need.
a presto,

I'd start hitting Ebay and posting on CL. If you need to get OEM parts, you should be able to find a parts catalog online to order the exact part numbers you need. Modesto Ducati can get parts very quickly, often within a week.
Instead of replacing the mirror, it might be cheaper to put bar ends on. (I think I have some CRGs laying around.)

sugarcrook, thanks for the tips. Tell me more about the CRGs that you have. Any pictures? I'm new at this whole moto thing and I'm good at taking things apart and putting them together. If the install is easy and painless (i.e. all the parts are included and it's as simple as needing a wrench or screwdriver), tell me more. I'm interested!
BTW, found a parts catalogue online via Ducati Omaha. You can also enter the part number online to get a price. Pretty cool. That way I have some idea what the prices are. I want to support the local guys, but it's tempting to buy out of state b/c of the no sales tax. So depending on the shipping charges, it may/may not be better to buy local. Opinions anyone?

When I laid down my 848 I started ordering parts from Ducati Omaha. If you're willing to wait 3-5 weeks for it, great. Otherwise, Modesto is much faster.
These are the CRGs I have:
http://www.solomotoparts.com/catalog/CRG-Hindsight-LS-Bar-End-Folding-Mirror-p-17849.html
They work well with
http://www.motovationusa.com/mvstore/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=304
. I mistakenly ordered the size too large for a 695, so I don't know if the bar end sliders will work with your 696.

Thank you all for the "glad you're O.K. comments." I appreciate that. The only lasting bruise is to my ego.
sugarcrook, how much are you willing to part with the CRG's for? As much as I like the bar end mirrors, I may have to go with the one OEM mirror to save $. From what I've read, the CRG's can be mounted directly onto the bars. Why go with the bar end sliders? Let me know. It seems the DMF looks a little different as I don't see the PM option on my screen.

Just another "Glad your ok."
That's what is really important.
Sounds like a lot of damage for a 10mph spill.. are the parts really broken or just scratched... I mean I know it's a Ducati and you want it to be pretty, but just park next to mine at LDD and you'll feel way better about how yours looks :-)
Good luck getting it back on the road

Thanks cynic13th. Yes. It was really that slow. It's what happens when you have a 360 lb. bike fall on fragile things that poke out: mirror, gear change level, footpeg. My daughter thinks she has some nail polish to paint the tank. That should look real cute. Will now pay for repairs by selling my Cal football tickets.

You can go to Munroe's (or any shop really...) and buy a little pen for < $20 that has paint to match your tank if it's just touch-up work that you need.
