How do I get motor oil off of a tire?
«

I just realized the other day that there were these unexplained splatter marks on the drive-side tread of the rear tire on my 696. At first I thought that it was brake fluid (because what other fluids make it back there?)
Long story short, it looks like when the dealer did the oil change (600 mile maintenance), they didn't install the oil filter properly. There is an extremely slow oil drip coming from the bottom of the oil filter that's splattering back onto the tire. I'm taking the bike back to the dealership on saturday, but I'm assuming they won't clean the oil off the tire for me (at least to my satisfaction)
How do I get this crap off?

Soap and water. Scrub it a little and it should be ok.

That was my original thought... I was thinking dish washing detergent and a stiff plastic-bristled brush

A buddy of mine broke an oil line on his Monster & completely SOAKED his rear tire in oil (I scooted in front of him and pulled everybody over about a half mile before we got up into the twisties, where he would have dropped my butt like a stone. Until about half way through the first turn at least). I was chatting with the mechanic who replaced the line and asked the same question. He said soap and water were fine, smiled and added, "You DO know that tires are made outta oil, doncha?"

And here I thought that they were made from rubber trees.

Not anymore.
Nylon and steel with some
carbon black
for durability.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.
