Best online broker.

Hey all, does anyone have a good online broker they have experience (firsthand) with?  I just got hit by the fees for my first trade,  and while not unexpected, it still stung.

Just looking for some insight, and experience.

I think it really depends on what all you want out of your broker's platform, and how active you are - for the most part fees & comissions are pretty close.

bells & whistles, variety of products & services offered, I like - www.etrade.com  (full disclosure, I used to work there)  despite what there stock price may say, I doubt they're going anywhere...

Agree ith Jaman..fees/comissos are usually similar across the board.
For what little online trading I do, TD Ameritrade has always worked well for me. Otherwise, my local Schwab broker is the goto guy for me.

I wont be super active, I have one stock in particular I've been watching and am playing a trend on... I doubt it will last too much longer, unless the market stays as volatile as its been.  

I just need one I can fund quickly and easily.  

The broker I'm going through now cost a minimum of $50 per trade, or 2.5%


Plus, his advice .... well lets just say he just got his licenses.

My buddy uses schwab. Very quick to set up and something like $12.50 a trade. Might be worth your while.

I use scottrade.   I do the buy and hold for a long time method with a little extra cash that is laying around.  Scottrade has very low fees for just buying and holding for long periods of time.  Plus, I think it's only like $7 a trade.

Use a wirehouse, and use their research department.

You get what you pay for.

I used to have ScotTrade -- nice, however the little fees for funding transfers etc. got tiring in a hurry.

Switched to TDAmeritrade and haven't looked back
