Info on motorcyclespecs.co website claims 4 valves/cylindar on the 1100 motard.

People I have talked to said otherwise.  Forgot to call AMS before they closed Sat.

From Ducati's website to you...  ;D

The Hypermotard 1100 is powered by the incredible Ducati two-valve, air-cooled, Desmodromic Dual Spark engine, giving it outstanding power delivery, from grunting low rpms to the singing howl at redline. The Hypermotard 1100 engine flexes its muscles with a big 98mm bore and short 71.5mm stroke to make 90 horses and 76 pounds of torque.

Hmm yeah, that site botched that bit... but they do have some cool youtube finds like the video from the Hyper product action shots.

Has Ducati ever made an air cooled engine with more than two valves per cylinder?

There are pictures of a prototype set of heads from the 70's that used 4 valves per cylinder and air cooling.

I do not think the mixture of 4 valve heads and air cooling were seen as a good match up.

I read somewhere the other day that Dr. "T" worked with 4v prototypes until something like 1974, but never made better power than with his 2v designs and finally gave up.  His 2v 750 Imola racers made about 90 hp I think.  I was kinda surprised the 4v didn't make more power.

I'd like to see a three valve version of the new 1200 air cooled engine.  I guess when you get over 100 hp with air cooling things get a little warm though.  The skinny on the air cooled 1200 is over 100 hp I've heard.
