Whats wrong with traffic enforcement cameras?
If you don't break the law you have nothing to fear.

You could argue that you're safer running a light when you find a tailgater that's unlikely to stop behind you.
You could argue that you are being impersonally accused by a camera instead of a live person (yeah, that whole due process thing)

Could a camera understand these circumstances? Or could a police officer?

Cameras sometimes cross the line of being revenue generators for local municipalities instead of serving law enforcement purposes too.

Multiple surveys have confirmed the reduction of "T-bone" type accidents but an increase in "rear end" accidents after the introduction of red light cameras.

I'll have to find a good one, but several PDs have done the research.  T-bone accidents are worse than rear end type because the crossing driver (green) is often hit on the driver's side by the red-light running driver and dies -- injuries are greater.

Nevertheless, accident RATES go up because more rear-ends, but lower fatalities.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

They keep adding roundabouts in my town for the same reason. We now have 6 of them. At least 4 more will be built in 09.

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

i like roundabouts, but the idiots here put one in and left the straight road in the middle of it and put 3 sets of traffic light on it.. WTF!?

Sounds like someone entirely missed the concept there. ???

Na, the person responsible probably has either a body shop or a legal practice that handles auto accident loss cases.

I love when people post up issues from their personal life on the Internet, ask for opinions, and then bash the responses.  :)

I apologize.  My reply to your response was unnecessarily harsh and over the top.  You took the time to reply.  I appreciate it.   :-[

+1   I thought the op had something to do w/ camera equip design etc. wtf.  >:(

tf is I should have been more general in my OP.  The traffic camera aspect seemed to be relevant since this is a transportation-themed site.  Perhaps I should have asked if others would take on a client's project if they don't morally agree with what that client does for a living -- even if the prospective project has nothing to do with the client's line of work.  That just seemed like a boring question.  Sorry.
Without stereotypes, there would be chaos.

when a women panic stops on a yellow light because she didn't want to get another "red light camera ticket" and I run into the back of her....that's what's wrong with them.

I was taught to approach light controlled intersections with care and be prepared to stop if the sequence should change during my approach.

I like the idea of graduated licensing to help control the quality of drivers. It would be great to have skills assessments for endorsements for various kinds of roads (basic licenses get you around suburban residential streets, then divided highways/higher congestion, then interstates, then congested city streets). Economic implications would bar this from happening.

I've only been riding for a season, so I'm still fairly new to this. The only close calls I've had so far have been when cagers have turned their vehicle into a mobile phone booth. Red light cameras MIGHT save lives, but cell phone jammers would save more. Economic implications would bar this from happening as well.

Works up to 20 m

Wire it up to your bike's charger so it only runs when your bike is on.  Mount it under the headlight.  You will be a mobile cone of silence.

10 years in the pen if you get busted with it (in the USA)

Now that I think of it though - a dropped call means looking blankly at the phone for a few seconds and redialing. Might be worse!
