I'm going to this whiskey tasting event with some buds on Monday night.  This group is full but there are still supposed to be some spots open if any of you want to attend.  Just call the number to the Idle Rich Pub (below) and get on the list.  If a few people are interested, you could probably sign up as a group.

Now that the holidays have come to a close, it's time to pick up where
we left off with our Monday Night Pub Tastings; this time we are
featuring Irish whiskey.

The Idle Rich Pub (2614 McKinney Ave) will host the next tasting on
Monday January 19 from 7:30 to 9:30pm It is an informal, self-paced
tasting of Ireland's finest whiskies. The $25 covers seven whiskies,
individual cheese plates of Irish cheeses, tasting notes, distillery
giveaways and gratuity.

Whiskies to be tasted
Blackbush premium blend from Co Antrim
Connemara peated Irish
Redbreast premium potstill
Tullamore 12 12 year aged version of the lovely Tullamore
Bushmills 1608 special release in honour of Bushmills 400 year anniversary
Midleton Very Rare beautifully crafted, the pride of the Irish Distillers Group
Tyrconnell Single Malt not yet available in the US, a distillery to watch

Cheeses to be tasted
Coolea Cashel Blue Mature Irish Cheddar
Dubliner Cheese with Stout

For reservations, please call the pub at 214.965.9926. For more
information, please visit our website at www.idlerichpub.com

We look forward to seeing you there,
Slainte.

If you're "tasting" for, say two hours, everything should work out fine   waytogo  Grin

Not to mess anyone's good "spirits" (pun intended), I was on my way home from a movie at 1:30 AM and came across a police road block on 183/Southwest HWY between the traffic circle and west Vickery at the Frank Kent Cadillac dealership.  They were obviuosly looking for folks who've had a few.  If cops are doing roadblocks here they are doing it in Dallas too.

Just a PSA.  So let's be careful out there.

They may be using up some of their DWI Task Force grant money. That's what usually funds the random stop checks. DSO (Dallas Sheriif Office) has a large 40 foot converted trailer that they use as a mobile testing unit for these group efforts. State and Federal grant $$$ is given out sometimes at the end of the year and sometimes at the begining to help fund these "get 'em off the street" stop checks. They are very effective. drink Police Cry

speaking of, has anyone ever volunteered to train the recruits at the academy?  we did this as "community service" for our college where the training school gets you drunk and trains the Officer on how to spot intoxicated people.  Then you do line walks and so on.  Of course, you need a designated driver to go but it was actually pretty fun trying to fool them.

Tongue Wish I could go whiskey teasting. I have to  Lips Sealed work !  Sounds very cool RonR !  bow down

+1 on CDC's safety reminder Police not only is driving drunk illegal, it's wrong.  People who don't
drink to be designated drivers + hosts who will let the intoxicated sleep it off are heroes !  waytogo

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

I'm back from the tasting thingie.  I would say it compared favorably to the bacon vodka tasting experience.  Less retching, and they told you which cheese to try with each selection.  A lot less hilarity though, which is a big factor  waytogo

We did seven different whiskeys.  All were decent, but a couple of standouts which were popular with everybody - Blackbush and Midleton.  It was hard to pick the best of those two, but the Midleton Very Rare was very expensive ($20/shot at Idle Rich) compared to the Blackbush ($6/shot).  I'll have to check the liquor store for bottle prices, but the Blackbush looks like a really good value.  It'll be nice to have an Irish whiskey as part of the selection now to add to the Scotch and American whiskeys.

Overall, it was a pretty fun event. If another one comes up we should check it out.  You can also order beers to fortify your buzz  drink

Oh, I forgot to mention, we got a few free glasswares and couple of free whiskey shirts (or hats)
