I am thinking of doing this mod to my 08' S2R. Question, How will this affect the reliabilty of the bike. Will the engine and trans give out after 5k miles? What can I look for and expect. I plan on owning it for some time and don't want to give her an early death.

Compression and cam lift always put more pressure on a motor, but it's also the #1 best way to hot rod a motor. Anything under 12:1 will last you many, many years (FHE), and the available cams aren't wild enough to create problems of their own. VeeTwo has a nice cam selection.

If you're looking for increased performance you are far better off to trade up to a S2R1K.  And if you were on a S2R1K and wanted more performance, I'd suggest trading up to a s4r/rs, unless you just hated water cooled bikes.

Modding is fun, but nobody does it as well as the factory.

I agree with LA. I've also got an 800, but I already know it's not worth the time and money to mess with engine performance. I'm just sticky to handling and braking for now, then an engine swap. I've also got a 4 cylinder bmw and performance mods aren't cheap, and it will still never be as fast as the newer m3s. My .02

That being said, I have been tempted to get cams and pistons for my duc.

Modding is fun, but nobody does it as well as the factory.

i could not DISagree more with this statement.

the factory bikes are not tuned to their max, not even close.  i have balanced cranks from the Ducati engines and the difference is phenomenal.  Ducati cranks are NOT balanced and lightened to the most ideal point, same with the pistons and rods.

the problem is cost:  if the factory did that with every bike, it would raise the cost significantly, probably as much as 800-1000 to the retail price.  so they statically balance to a good amount, test the engine to 10000 rpm (using an electric spinner, not running the engine) and if the thing doesnt' vibrate too much, it passes.

put the high comp pistons on, but make sure to get them balanced along with the rods.  if you have the time and money, get the crank dynamically balanced and lightened.  tune the system on a dyno with a PCIII and the stock EFI and you'll blow any s2r1k off the road.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Perhaps the OP just updated his sig line, but he's already got a 1000.

One of my customers has an M1k with oversize hi-comps in it, I think it's a 1080 now.
It's got a light flywheel in it too.

It's an animal.  waytogo

Dunno what effect the vee two or DP cams have.

IIRC, there's someone here that's done the DP cams.

Don't know why I assumed an 800 or didn't see sig. Strike what I said before and go for it.
