Yep.  Such BS.  I had a book that had a different introduction (which was pointless) and the chapters were slightly reordered.  So I had to buy a make the beast with two backsing new one.

I fell for it my first semester of college.... then i smartened up the 2nd semester.

1. You cannot learn everything from a text book in 1 semester. It is cheaper to buy the book, make a copy of it, then return it.
2. Math and Science does not change. Buy the older edition for 90% off and go to the library, borrow the new one and  take photographs of the ones you need to work on with the new numbers (ONLY if you need to hand in the HWK).
3. Many times the older edition is available online via bit torrent.

Now. for everyone of you cry babys about copyright infringement/stealing from the authors hard work...etc... Go suck it. Why? because History only happens once. Math is the same no matter what, it is not right that the school forces us to use a new edition just so the author of it can make money. And you know what, 90% of the time, its the SAME text book, with different numbers and things are reorganized.

Last i remember, Newtons laws hasn't changed, we still raped the Nazis and the Japanese Empire, and the derivative of X with respect to X is still 1.

ONTOP Of which, the US market for textbooks are marked up 600%. I just bought an international/low cost version of the exact same text book(soft cover, black and white, on non glossy paper) for $34.00 Brand new. I have to buy it from New Dehlia India because it is illegal to sell in the US since we have our own version....$190.00.

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

Try law school books.

That is a ripoff.  Especially when your books are written by your professor.

I say "written" because they will occasionally write a page or two of analysis for a case.

I figured this otu my first semester.  Second semester, I would just print out the cases from the library.  Sometimes it is too much because the book has only a section of a case.  However, I never had a problem peeking in the book of a friend to see waht pages are covered.

I think the books per semester ran around 500-800 $ depending on the subject.

The textbook for my patent law class was $300.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Ahhh text books.  I bought them for 2 years, realized i never opened them so i never bought them again.
