I am not sure if it is a vital bit but my rear shock bump stop at the bottom of the spring has disintergrated , is it vital? Its a sachs unit .

Worst thing you have to worry about is that the suspension is not set up right for you.  On rare occasions it might touch but if it has hit enough to destroy it then you need to get your suspension right for you.
Who insures the FDIC?

No nothing has hit it ....its just disintegrated into a rubbery power and washed away. the shock and spring are perfect.

I would suggest replacing it.  Unfortunately, the bump stop is not shown as a separate piece.

Unless you resemble Fat Albert and/or take your Monster out on the local MX track, forget it and ride on.

I've not tried it, but I wager that the rear tire could get up into the undertray and the seat before the shock bottomed out metal-to-metal.
And doing that to the shock may well not do it any good either.

That may be true but we can somewhat safely assume that it has not happened so far. The bump stop did not just fall off today. It has been (mostly) gone for some time without him even knowing it and with no problems. The amount of work it will take to replace just the bumper makes it a non-issue to me. He'd be better off just getting a complete shock off of here or ebay or use it as an excuse to upgrade. Again, just my one and half cents.

I will look into a new rearshock or having the old one serviced,, depends on cost.
