im not trying to be a dick, just speaking from experience.

i once tried to rent a uhaul car hauler to move a toyota 4runner with my super duty ford. uhaul informed me that my vehicle was not capable of hauling their trailer+ the weight of the 4x4 4runner.

ridiculous of course, but there it is...

Yeah, I may have to "be mistaken" when it comes to what vehicle I'm putting on it...

uhaul suxs serious donkey schlong.  My guess is they just wanted to sell the rental of one of their trucks...

I've got some serious hate for them after a couple of Dity moves while I when I was still in.

I just did my DITY move with them. Rented a gasoline 27' truck and an autotransporter. Told them the wife's Passat was going on it. Instead put my 02 F150 Super Cab on there along with a shit ton of stuff in the back. Total truck weight with the pickup was 31K pounds!

When a mfg has to round to the nearest 100 pounds, instead of say 500 or 1000 pounds, you know they are stretching the truth.  For example, maybe they had the test truck pull 11,300 without breaking, but then puked at 11,400.  Rather than just say 11,000, or 11,500, they went with 11,300 - it just seems odd.

And I agree that is too much weight for any 1/2 ton truck (why that is even a class name anymore I don't know).

My old Scout is rated to like 8400. While I don't doubt that it would pull that on flat ground, I wouldn't want to, like, turn, stop, go up or down hill, etc...  [laugh]
I always thought that "1/2 ton" "3/4 ton" etc was the amount you could place in the bed or load the rear end with, more or less?

weight rating of the axles.
somewhat of an over simplification. :P

Carrying capacity (weight rating) is the amount of weight you can add before you exceed rated GVW which is based on the weight rating of the axles

Used to mean something like that.

Now just refers to light duty, heavy duty, heavier duty, etc.

Ton rating
When light-duty trucks were first produced, they were rated by their payload capacity in tons (e.g., 1â,,2-, 3â,,4- and 1-ton). The Ford F-150, Chevy/GMC 1500, and Dodge 1500 are a 1â,,2-ton. The Ford F-250, Chevy/GMC 2500, and Dodge 2500 are a 3â,,4-ton. The Ford F-350, Chevy/GMC 3500, and Dodge 3500 are a 1-ton. But throughout the years, the payload capacities have increased while the ton title has stayed the same. The current ton rating is nothing more than just a truck name.
