Quick Bolt Size Questions

I'm looking to replace a few ugly bolts on the bike. I'm not ready to invest in a full kit - I'm going to do them a few at a time in titanium and billet aluminum where applicable.

As I pull out my trusty (read: cheap & crappy) calipers and measure the few bolts i have in front of me, I get:

2 - M6x20 - Clutch Cover
2 - M6x70 - Clutch Cover
2 - M6x?? - Clutch Cover - the ones you don't remove to take off cover - how long are these?

And what are the gas cover bolts? I have the 5 bolt cover and I find the screws to look like M5's, but are a little short than standard length bolts (2 short / 3 long), but I may be incorrect or not have factory original bolts in place currently.

My measures for bar related bolts (such as brake/clutch master's) are M6x20's.

Are these measurements correct what others have? I don't want to order a few expensive-ish Titanium bolts and have ordered the wrong size.

I know this doesn't answer your question exactly, but why not go with SS? McMasters-Carr has a good selection - cheap.

I have a lot of the bolts in SS, but around the controls I thought I'd spruce it up with some anodized color bolts, and around the clutch cover, the same way.

I find myself sprucing it up for no good reason, other than some of the original bolts are starting to look a little raggedy. I like the tapered head look of the Ti, and lastly, this may be out of boredom this morning. It is very rainy in Dallas today.

Keep in mind that the anodized alum ones fade like crazy and love to round out. Ti is cool, but if it's not a really big bolt, it makes for rather expensive glitter. You can always polish the heads of the SS ones.

Good points - The ano bolts are gong to be gold, so they'll only fade to a yellow, and the bike isn't stored in the sun very often (they'll match my fork adjusters). I'm bent on wasting a few dollars this rainy morning. (I just drove to Nashville and back to Dallas to get the bike and I am greeted with rain. Thanks, weather.)

mcmaster-carr seems to have a decent selection, but at least for titanium was really lacking the metric stuff.  where are you planning on getting yours?

and yeah, this rain sucks...it's still sprinkling very lightly downtown dallas; kind of glad i took the bike in for some services a couple days ago.

Ok, I got creative with the online parts finders. The parts appear to be M6x70, M6x65, and M6x25's primarily.

If you're wanting anodized bolts, Probolt (tastynuts.com) sells kits for a lot of bikes.

You have an M900, right?

Hmmm...they don't list a tank kit or engine bolt kit for your bike, but the M800 tank kit is a 5-bolt kit and they list that.  Looks like some of what you want you can order a kit from them.

I've ordered from them many times.  Even though you pay a little more for shipping, they have great customer service, and I've gotten orders in less than a fortnight -- often around 10 days.

I do indeed. And what I've decided to do is take the time to pull a bolt, attempt to measure it to the best of my abilities, including my horrible calipers, and order a replacement. Slow going, but its working out pretty good so far.

I don't need to buy a ton of these at once, for Titanium, they are $4-$7 a pop, even more if I felt the need to buy the NCR / Poggipolini pieces, so money is a limiter there.

Can you order from TastyNuts and have them deliver to the U.S.? I have looked over their website before, and didn't think that was a possibility and relegated myself to trying to find US vendors. (Which is how I found racebolts.com which I have had good experiences with)

Just a headsup to anyone who is wondering:

For the six bolts around the clutch:

2x M6x25
1x M6x65
3x M6x70

For most Handlebar Related Items (Brembo Radial Master's, CycleCat Clipon Bolts at the bar clamp end, etc)
M6x25 - 8 Needed to replace clutch, brake, and bar bolts (each needed two)

I get my Ti bolts from Motowheels.com or Racebolts.com

In case someone else is reading this thread and is trying to figure out what size bolts they have, check this out. A set of PDF files with standard and metric bolts, nuts, etc. in actual size.  When you print these, make sure your print setup does not have the 'auto resize' option checked.
