According to Hollywood Reporter, Jackie Earle Haley, Rorschach from Watchmen, has signed on to play the infamous Freddy Krueger in the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street.

I don't know how to feel about this. A Nightmare movie without the wonderful Robert Englund? How the make the beast with two backs can that even be possible? I would have never been able to see this being made with Englund, because let's face it, he's make the beast with two backsin' Freddy but now I'm torn.

I think the only thing I've seen Haley do was Watchmen, and he really was the soul of that movie, in my humble opinion. Based on his performance in that movie, I feel as though he can bring something dark and gritty to the Freddy character. Let's face it, beyond the second Nightmare movie, Freddy became more comical, laid-back, chill even and there's nothing wrong with that. He was more likable and well, I don't know about anyone else, but even though you knew he was going to die in the end, I was always rooting for him.

Beyond the classic first film and the greatness of the third (Dream Warriors will forever hold a place in my heart) New Nightmare was one of my favorites as well. The thing I loved about New Nightmare besides the film breaking down a wall and breathing real life into the characters, Freddy was scary again. He was back to the cold, dark, terrifying monster he was in the first film. I feared him and I loved it.

The remake is going to be made and nothing will change that, a sequel to the remake could be made, shit happens. But regardless, I'll be seeing it.

The one thing I do enjoy out of most remakes, as I've mentioned a lot before, is that they are often more gory and I can't help but love those tiny moments. It's small things that get me through the day or at least through a shitty remake (not saying this will be shitty or not at this point.) I don't know if the Johnny Depp bedroom scene will be or can even be remade in this one but the one thing I can say is, I am looking forward to a hardcore Freddy. I have to come to terms that Englund is not going to be Freddy, it make the beast with two backsin' sucks but I really think, I want to believe that Haley can bring the Freddy character back to what he was, a scary, make the beast with two backsed up burnt victim with a taste for vengeance. Only time will tell.

Last night, I saw the SciFi original 'Zombie Stripper' with Robert Englund and Jenna Jamison.  After seeing Englund in that movie, I guess he'd take any role he could get his hands on.  Englund just came across as a weirdo.
