Bike 2006 S2R 800
I tried to take out the oil screen tonight and ran into a problem. How do you get the screen out? The bike has the oil temp sender as the screen cap and removing it with a 21mm deep socket went ok. You can see the screen end, and I think you need a 17mm allen socket to remove the screen? Is this true or is it just pressed in.

It's not just pressed in.  17mm was close.  It needs a 14mm.  You may have to order one.  Most places don't keep them in stock.  I know there are some DIY solutions out there instead of just buying the 14mm, but I don't recall them off-hand.

Honestly, if you're in the middle of an oil change and have to wait for the correct tool, it's probably not going to kill you to skip checking the filter this time around.

yes 14 mm allen socket is the way to go; and they tend to be sticky due to the heat;

I also used a 14 mm allen key and 14 mm wrench on the allen key.

its not critical to clean it; but intresting to see whats caught in the screen .... and on the end of the magnetic oil plug.

Thanks Guys, I will look for a 14mm this morning, if I cant find one I'll put it back together. Its funny, you think you have all winter to work on the bike, suddenly it nice out.

Auto Zone and Harbor Freight Tools both sell Allen/socket sets that include 14mm.  I'm using the Auto Zone set and they've been serviceable.

if the drain plug magnet is clean, really no need to worry about the screen insert.

I've had the harbor freight ones for 6 years now. they're great for once in a while use.

+1 on autozone, they had it in stock when I was looking for the 14mm
