bike vibrates more then before

Dear all,

First of all: great to have a real monster forum, especially for ducati monster addicts!

I have a 600 cc Ducati Monster and I often work on it myself.

But it now vibrates (on handlebars) more then before. I really feel the engine vibrating. It almost feels like a Harley.

What could be the problem.

Which elements make that you don't feel the vibrating of the engine or maybe that the engine itself vibrates less.

If I can identify these elements I could check them for wear!

Do the caps on the end of the handlebar reduce vibration? Are there any anti-vibration elements (like the ones on the exhaust) that should be replaced?

To the best of my knowledge there are no replaceable anti vibration pieces.

You say you do your own work....

what have you done lately?

Removed bar-end weights or installed lightweight flywheel recently?

Check the motor mount bolts, make sure they're torqued to spec.

And +1 on what you've done recently...

Hmm... motor mount bolts seems really logical, so I +1 that, if they are a little loose, there would room to vibrate where there wasn't any previously, which would be felt rather substantially.

Also, is it when the bike is simply stopped, and idling; or is it only while moving?

Switching from bar end mirrors back to the normal mirrors mounted by the brake/clutch levers will increase vibrations because it's taking weight off the end of the bars.

Valves being out of spec will increase vibrations as well.

Get yourself am oil pressure testing gauge and check the hot/cold pressure against the Ducati specs!!

If they are low you just might have worn crank bearings, which can cause vibration! 

A lot of home mechanics neglect to do this check and its a good way to keep an eye on your err, umm "bottom end"
