Which is better pilot power or pilot power 2ct? for trackdays and street riding?

I just swapped a rear power for a new power 2ct...my first impression is that they seem pretty much the same to me, feel-wise. I haven't ridden it very much, though. I'd be curious to know if the 2ct's actually longer enough to justify the slightly higher price, if someone out there knows. I really don't believe a whole lot of this marketing stuff.  [drink]

the power 2ct isnt longer life, its just softer edges. the pilot road 2ct is longer life with pilot pwoer equivalent edges. I rode my first set of powers to death and loved it. but it just wanst up to city commuting. way to soft, especially on the torquey S2R1000 and the way i gun it at the lights. so i swaped to pilot road 2cts (read ROAD 2CT). it feels just as good as the regular powers, and with ~1,500 miles on the odo, it has only lost about 1mm of rubber, if that. im expecting the life time to be around ~10,000 from the way i ride. its not as sharp as the pilot powers though, but the drop in is still very predictable.

As He Man said, the 2CTs are not designed for more mileage than the regular Pilot Power.  You might find, depending on your local roads and your style of riding they may not square off as quickly.

I dont use my bike for commute.Mostly canyon rides and will be hitting the track soon so regular pilot power is the way to go [thumbsp]

Hmmm...I thought the centers of the power 2ct's were the supposed to be a little harder than the original powers, with the object being to give you better mileage before they wear out. I had just assumed the sides were pretty much the same as a standard power. But you're telling me the centers are the same but the sides are softer? That's still OK, just not what I expected.

Oh well, live and learn.

QuoteIt's amazing how quick a rear goes from no grooves showing to cords showing.

+1.
But normally you can ride up to 100 km`s on the cord. ;)
Not proud of it but I had to it last summer. Sometimes you just want to get home.
Could be good to know on desperate occasions...
Those rubbers were Metzeler Road Z6.

There is no "safe" mileage that you can ride on the cords.  The material of the rubber changes before you get to the cord, it's different from the tread compound, and that stuff goes quick.   I really, really try to not get to the cords.

My lesson learned fr above is:
Check at least 4 spots on tire!
One spot looked worn but OK, 2 hours later I was on the cord on half the tire! :P
