battery charging...should I hear it?

I just hooked up my battery tender and the light is red, I have never noticed it before, but i can hear the battery charging if I listen close...is this normal?

You hearing that battery or the charger?  The charger will emit a hum
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

like aboiling noise from the battery.

Lead acid batteries emit small amount of hydrogen and oxygen as part of the charging process.  You probably hear it bubbling up from the plates - might sound a bit like a half flat soda.

Just to be sure, put a volt meter across the battery.  If your battery charger is a low rate charger and you are seeing more than 15 volts, either your battery is faulty or your charger is over charging.  If you are using a high rate charger, reduce the rate to 2 amps or less and less than 15 volts.  No volt meter?  Feel the battery.  It should be warm, but not hot.
