'02 S4

« on: June 11, 2009, 07:23:09 PM »

Can I get an atermarket dash to work on my S4? Is there a way around the cursed immobilizer? My speedo hasn't worked for a pretty long time now and I just can't bring myself to spending what Ducati wants to replace it.

Personal don't like the digital display for my Monster, but there are a couple of the high price ones that wouldn't look to bad mounted on my Duc

I've called a couple of dealerships and haven't been able to get an answer. Noticed a couple of bikes on here that have swapped out the dash. Just need a straight answer on what I'm getting into if I take this route.
I've been told that I could goto an aftremarket ECU, but I am not wanting to opt for that until I have too. (it would actually be cheaper than getting than to get a new setup.
BTW my ECU is not married to the system if that helps...
Thanks

There are some options, and more than existed just a year or so ago.

You can take the guts out of your current tach (including the immobilizer), hide it underneath the tank and run an aftermarket tach off of it.  That's the set-up I'm running on the M1000SS (formerly an '03 M1000).  Talk to Duck-Stew, who built my bike, re the specifics.

Alternatively, you can have Monstermash reflash your ECU. I'm not sure if just disabling the immobilizer re the reflash allows you completely get rid of your current tach.  Check with him:  http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=15502.0

If they make a Nemesis ECU (not cheap!) for the S4, that's another option.  I know they're available for later models, but am just not sure.  Anothony at desmoworks.com should be able to point you in the right direction.

It used to be that you could run a FIM ECU, but I think they're out of business and I know of only a few (two in the US to be exact) who had success with that route.  At this point, I'd consider it a dead end.

P.S.  I'm not surprised you're not getting your answers at TOB.  After the mass exodus most of the community (and the knowledge base) ended up here, though some people still frequent both boards.

Thanks Spidey! The only otions I knew about were calling Ducati and the Nemesis option both of which were more than I was willing to spend. I mean I'd much rather do some HC pistons than have a speedo Wink

I just stumbled across the new forum here yesterday. Relieved to find it! BTW it has a much better layout.

sent out some messages hope I can get this one fixed soon!

Spidey listed 'em well.  waytogo
Best of luck!

I guess I'm 50% of the market here in the USA for the FIM U59.  Tongue

Motogadget makes really nice gauges, but AFAIK they don't have an analog speedo.
When they come out with one, I'm doomed.  bang head

Good to see you here, man, glad you found us.  chug
