Is there some stand I can buy or is there a cheaper way to do this? Jack?
there are front stands that pick the bike up on the lower triple, vs. by the axle
if you have straps, and some other way to lift the bike off the ground (some sort of A-frame, or exposed beams in your garage's ceiling, whatever) that'll work, too.
What is this step for?
so when you slide the forks back up, you'll have the same front height that you started with
What type of tools do I need for that? Anything special?
metric allen wrenches, that's it
Thanks for the info, I would really like to do this myself, but I'm new at wrenching as you can probably tell.
no problemo. that's what we're here for... and besides, you gotta start somewhere, right?
