Fast idle switch leading to overheating?

Hey,

I rode my S4R today and forgot to turn the fast idle switch back down. As i was riding in traffic ( i was with the wife and she does not split lanes) the readout read "HI" and that means a temp of like 240! WTF? is there any relation to the idle switch and the overheating?

What are other reasons for this?

I cannot see any relationship between the fast idle switch and your overheating; but, I did take note that, appart from having higher than usual RPMs, you were sort of "stuck without fresh air" flowing thru the radiatior.
This is the only reason I see for this. I ride a M620 and when I got it, I didn't lane split and temps never went that hi. I live in Panama and avg temp is 90C.

but there's a fan. Isn't that air running through?

As long as your engine speed is not too high for your road speed there is no relationship, but once the engine speed is too high for your road speed, like sitting at a traffic light and your idle speed is 2,000 RPM instead of 1,200 RPM load is increased on your cooling system.  Also, make sure your fans come on.
