Vacuum fuel pump Q

So, assuming that the pump itself is fine and undamaged, what can cause it to be weak? Pretty much only a vacuum leak somewhere, yes? How do I track those down?

Does the Mikuni pump have a minimum spec?

Have you checked vacuum at the source you're using?

Can I suggest putting a small low pressure electric pump on this bike to eliminate fuel delivery questions?

It would save you a ton of time.

   +1  cost you about $30.00 American.  Any parts house should have one.

Yeah... I looked at that before. What are you guys seeing that is $30 that I'm not. When I looked for something that would work I couldn't find anything that cheap. The only thing I found at like autozone and the like was big as heck and at least $50. Nothing as small and sleek as what I've seen some others on the board use.

Random question. When you guys think of vacuum line, do you think of windshield wiper hose? 'Cause that's what autozone and pep boys keep wanting to give me when I ask for vacuum hose. It just doesn't seem right.

The fuel pump I'm using is supposed to flow 14 Liters/hour. I don't know what stock is supposed to do. Assuming that there's a vacuum problem somewhere, skipping that and putting in an electrical pump would fix my fuel issue but would leave the vacuum problem. Would that be OK?

hard to say if it would be OK or not, but I bet you could ride it. ;D

Haha, I can ride it right now too, without a fuel filter and for less than 2 hours.  ;D If I ride it too hot it starts complaining. Running it too rich has helped me get pass this sort of but the bike still bogs down and almost dies.  [laugh] I'm finding all sorts of funny and stupid and probably damaging ways around my problems but it only prolongs when I run into problems.

Oh, and this is the only low pressure fuel pump I can find at Autozone and Pep Boys and it's freakin' huge (about 6x6x4).

I saw someone that had a nice sleek in-line one but have never been able to find anything like that.
I used a delco solenoid type pump on my tractor as a transfer pump.

It's just slightly longer than a fuel filter and about the same diameter, and has 5/16 fittings built right in.

It wasn't 30 bucks though.

Arg! It's so frustrating trying to find things that fit when they aren't intended to fit. Nobody puts out their full catalogs and everyone always forces you to search by vehicle make or part number. Obviously I don't know the part number and obviously my bike isn't the vehicle make list because the part isn't intended for my bike.  [bang]

I think I've seen most of those in my searches. Even the NOS one at 18GpH seems like a lot. That's more than 68LpH which is nearly 5 times higher flow rate than the vacuum pump that's on there. Is that really OK?

You're over thinking flow rate IMO.

It will only flow till it builds pressure and then stops.

Be careful about the pressure rating...you only need about 3-4 psi.
