I put on a fender from a GT1000 and decide that my other chainguard just didn't look right any more.  So I got a piece of 1/2 AL rod and set to work w/ the bender.  That didn't turn out so well; actually it was a disaster.  The 1/2 is just too thick to get the bends I needed using my bender.  So I went to 3/8 AL rod.  This went better.  It took as long to sand out the marks from the bender and get the finish I wanted as it did to make all the bends (probably longer).

The new chainguard

It won't stop much dirt from flinging around, but it will stop the chain if it breaks.

That matches really nice. Very minimalistic. Great work  [thumbsup]

Where'd you score that front fender? Did you pay full OEM price for it? Those things are ~$400 from Ducati!

Nice Penske- if I had a Penske I'd also have a hugger to protect the shaft from pitting due to rocks and debris thrown up by the rear tire. Just sayin'

This post was just below mine asking if anyone had done it!  Did you have to do anything to the front fender other than getting the GT1000 clips for the forks?

The fender was from 2 separate ebay finds.  I got the red fender over a year ago.  I came on the brackets w/ a cream fender that had a scuff on the top of it; it looked like maybe they had run up under a bumper.  After putting it on, I found out the brackets were bent a bit.  A little straightening in the vise, and I got them settled in place.  Can't remember the fender price for sure, but I think it was about $40 shipped.  I scored the brackets (and cream fender) for $90 shipped.  I've wanted to do this for awhile, but was having trouble talking myself into the Ducati prices.  I had to get the mounting rings from Ducati - about $20 total.

W/ the right mounting rings, it's a direct bolt on.  Almost laughably easy compared to some of the mods the people here have done.

The Penske was another ebay find.  I had an AL hugger I made on there for awhile, till I hit a road where they were cutting trenches across the road for cable/lines of some kind.  The last one had alot of the gravel washes out and the suspension completely compressed.  The shock remote hit the hugger and dented it, which the tire then caught and folded over.  I haven't quite decided how to remake it yet.  Now this chainguard makes it even more interesting since I have to come up w/ another mounting on that side.

I have some more playing to do w/ it.  A friend is trying to get me to add a small piece painted red under the AL.  It would match the fender that way, but I haven't looked yet how I want to go about doing it.  Maybe something to mock up today and see if I like it.  :-)

Oh and if you are looking for a fender, I have a cream colored w/ a very small scuff on the leading edge.  PM me if you are interested and I'll get some pics. (I've never gotten around to posting it in the classifieds)

Cool. One queston: Is the OEM fender plastic, GRP, or metal?  I'm toying with the idea of the chrome accessory fender.  I wish it was alloy, but it's not.  Chrome plated steel.  I'm also thinking about hitting up some custom shops to make an alloy one for me.  But hey, shoot me a PM with a price and we'll talk.  Needs to be painted anyway so scratches aren't a big issue.

OEM GT1000 fender is plastic w/ alloy brackets.

Sending PM in a few.

Well I finally got motivation/inspiration to get the color matched piece made.  Just got it attached, so you're the 1st to see it.   :)
