So I have about 3500 miles on my 09 696 and it died on me yesterday mid ride. I was sitting at a light, 1st gear and clutch pulled in when the engine started choking and RPM's dropped to like 1000 and then the engine died and the error came on the lcd "COIL:error". When i tried starting it again, it hesitated to turn over, then it did turn over but the engine sputtered and RPM's never got about 2000 and died again. Subsequent tries to start resulted in the engine cranking but never turning over...I ultimetely had it towed to my dealer...

Does anybody know what would cause the COIL error to pop up and completely kill my bike?

Why am i having sooooo many issues with this thing. Its only 9 months old...I figured I would get  Ducati to avoid all these BS problems....

Anybody have any insight into the COIL issue?

Wait, you got a ducati to AVOID these problems?? :o

Have the dealership pick up the cost of towing. Its under warranty so make sure you dont pay a dime for the work.

I had the tow driver put the $95 on the total bill. I told the dealer i dont want the thing back unless its fixed. If i get it back and still get these  [bang] errros [bang] its lemon law time.

Lemon Law requires 3 tries for fixing. At least it does in California.  Be patient it may just be a faulty coil. It may not be major. How many other issues have you had?

Issues...this bike had issues since i bought it in december....I have put posts about the following issues:

1) Practically every morning, i get a "0003 r.SW" error and the whole system resets (including my clock)  [thumbsup]
2) I get a FUEL error almost every time i turn the bike off but keep the ignition on  [thumbsup]
3) I get BATT HI and BATT LO errors constantly...(not sure how it can fluctuate from lo to hi like 10v to 16v)  [thumbsup]
4) Its been in the shop already 3 times for the above issues. They replaced the voltage regulator the 2nd time and all three times they were "unable to reproduce" the errors....
5) This is the fourth time its in the shop, albeit due to the COIL error, but the bike still gets the same errors as before (0003 r.SW, BATT HI, BATT LO, FUEL error...)

I think i almost had every error in the book show up...just waiting for the infamous LAMB error to come...

This time was the last straw...I almost got mowed down cuz i broke down at a busy intersection....COIL error...jeez... [bang]

Wow..sounds like a straight up ECU & Dash. I dont blame you nor do I envy you. Knowing this i'm willing to bet this is a ECU and Dash malfunction not the coil itself.

Sounds like your electrical system is whacked out. Those are the hardest to fix too.

I'd push for a full replacement on the bike too. Start the dialog. It is going to take forever to resolve cuz they'll probably have to go to DNA to get approval.

Best of luck to you, I'm sorry for your situation. If your dealer is unresponsive double up and try to go thru a different dealership. Some dealerships are more responsive that others.

Oh an one more thing, a lot of places have consumer watchdog / advocacy groups that deal with issues like this. Sometimes some outside influence or media pressure can help "expedite" the process. Call your local news station and ask if they have something like that.

No dealership was a bad rap, since it has a direct impact on sales.

Unfortunately lemon law does not cover motorcycles or motor-homes, at least in California :-\

I learned the hard way years ago. Here is the paragraph excerpt from

http://www.ag.ca.gov/consumers/general/lemon.php

WHAT IS A NEW MOTOR VEHICLE

The law discussed above applies to "new motor vehicles." (Certain limited protection may apply to used vehicles as described in Section 2.) The term "new motor vehicle" includes not only new motor vehicles but also demonstrators; the chassis, chassis cab, and propulsion system of a new motor home; and any other motor vehicle sold with a manufacturer's new car warranty. For example, a two-year old used car sold with the remaining one year portion of a manufacturer's three-year new car warranty would be treated as a new motor vehicle. The term "new motor vehicle," however, does not include motorcycles or exclusively off-road vehicles.

well if it ever gets to it, just cuz there's no law doesnt mean you cant take legal action. Work with them. I hope you can get your issues resolved.
