Hello everybody  :)
That's my first post in the DMF, and unfortunately it's in Tech category.
It's about the rear suspension adjustment of my 1998 Monster Dark.  [bang]
First let me show you the little black monster:

As you can see the rear suspension is adjusted realy low, from the previous owner.
Now the main suspension parameters on my bike are:
- distance between the mounting holes of the rear shock absorber without the rider: 300mm
- spring height without the rider: 145mm
- the ball joints are fully screwed in the connection bow (I know there must have a few windings unscrewed)
Tomorrow I'll mesure the seat height, but it's very low.
I have some doubts about the shosk absorber. It's a Sachs one, but I think it can be from other Duke model.
To start adjusting the rear suspension sag and preload first I need to change these parameters to the standart values.
There are not much Dukes around, so can someone with an older monster (with a connection bow on the rear suspension) mesure these parameters and post them here. Any other advices are wellcome too  [beer]

Regards,
Christo

This morning I went to the garage to mesure the seat height.
It's 730mm  :o
That means it is 40mm lower than the standard height of 770mm.

Go to http://www.ducatisuite.com/rearsuspension.html and this will help sort out your ride height etc etc.  Screw in the dampening screw at the bottom of the shock all the way, then out 6 clicks and try that.
Current bike - 2005 S4R Monster
Sold 1997 Red 900 Monster
Sold 1999 Yellow 750 Monster
Can not keep the silly smile off my face when using my Monster :-)

Thanks @wiggy  [thumbsup]
I allready knew about this site and even had printed the instructions about the rear suspension adjustment.
They lill be my guiding light [laugh] when I start the adjustment.
But first I need to start from somewhere. And this somewhere is the basic rear suspension adjustment.
This is why i need to know the following parameters:
- the distance between the axes of the mounting holes of the rear shock absorber;
- the spring height;
- how much windings of the ball joints have to be unscrewed.
When I unscrew the ball joints there will be more tension on the shock absorber, and I will have to change the spring lenght to compensate it. It's not so complicate, but I don't want to start doing this adjustment on blind.
That's why I need help from somebody, who have the bike like mine, to measure and post them here.
Thanks in adcvance  [beer]

Many thanks @desmo_dude  [beer]
I missed this very useful indormation  [bang] but I'll try to readjust it again, because the seat height was rised only a half inch.
